Good Deed: #137 Seek halaal/lawful earnings
Dilemma: You were asked to play your favourite sport for a million dollars, the team jersery has a alcohol beverage logo on it. What would you do?
23:51 (Y. Ali) O ye apostles! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.
4:29 (Y. Ali) O ye who believe! Eat not up your property among yourselves in vanities: But let there be amongst you Traffic and trade by mutual good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah hath been to you Most Merciful!
2:202 (Y. Ali) To these will be allotted what they have earned; and Allah is quick in account.
Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, called upon us to work and earn a living saying, “No one has eaten food better than that earned by his own hands and the Prophet of Allah Dawud, peace be upon him, would eat from what his own hands had earned.” (Related by al-Bukhari)
Hadhrat Abdullah ibn Mas’ood Radhi Allahu Anhu has narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said:”The seeking of a permissible (Halaal) livelihood is an obligation after the obligatory acts (Faraa’idh)” Bayhaqi
On the authority of Hadhrat Umar Radhi Allahu Anhu), He Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam is reported to have also said:
“If you placed your trust in Allah, in the manner in which He should be trusted, then He would arrange sustenance for you just as He provides for the birds; they leave in the morning with their stomachs empty and return with their stomachs filled in the evening.”
[Sunan ut-Tirmidhi
Hadhrat Jaabir ibn Abdullah has narrated the Prophet Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam as saying: Verily a person does not acquire death until he receives his sustenance”
[Sunan ibn Majah]
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) once reminded us, “It is better that a person should a take a rope and bring bundles of wood on his back to sell so that Allah may preserve his honour, than that he should beg from people.” [Bukhari & Muslim]
The Prophet (SAW) has told us, “Riches are sweet, and a source of blessing to those who acquire them (lawfully) by the way; but those who seek them out of greed are like people who eat but are never full (or satisfied). ”
Prophet (SAW): “Whoever sets this world as his goal, Allah divides his affairs for him. He will place poverty between his eyes, and nothing will come to him from this world except what Allah has written for him. Whoever sets the Hereafter as his goal, Allah gathers his affairs for him, gives him richness of the heart and the world will come to him grudgingly and submissively.” [Ibn Majah & Ibn Hibban]

2. Stay away from Interest, Riba
3. Work hard and honestly
4. Stay away from anything evil or sinful.
